Contrary to Robert Venturi’s 1979 prophecy in “Learning from Las Vegas”, the “duck” has prevailed as a grand gesture in urban architecture and today ostentatious buildings undeniably shape the image of a city. Here, zweintopf demonstrates the opposing form, the“decorated shed”, of divided core and descriptive casing, on a banal object in urban space: a shed combining the functions of junction box, waste disposal container and sheltered pissoir, which exemplifies Venturi’s slogan in its purest form.
