A piece of woodland planted in the 1970s with a typical artificial spruce
monoculture is the setting and experimental field for a series of photographs
that is continued each winter. The installations are built on site from standard
tent poles, creating a field between apparent artificiality and supposed
naturalness. Two mass cultures overlap here: the productive spruce that
has replaced the indigenous mixed forest in many places, and the cheap
Chinese steel that enables the production of this flood of disposable items in
our DIY stores. In our opinion, both have their own magic…
As temporary monuments, these built structures are not particularly durable
and only become a lasting work of art through the medium of photography
and the fixed angle of view.
